To be a minister of God makes you a spiritual leader and societal role model,for Christians and unbelievers alike to emulate your godly lifestyle. As a man of God you should know that it is not everything that ordinary people do or, say that is expedient for you .
Even there are some places a minister of God should not go , and things he should not even touch . In this write up we are considering somethings that a man or woman of God should not do , and for that matter should try at all cost to avoid doing so . '' All things are lawful for me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but all things edify not.'' 1 Corinthians 10:23
1. Do not kill church members
As much as you can try as a pastor never to kill anyone no matter the offense ,'' For we know him that hath said, Vengeance belongeth unto me, I will recompense, saith the Lord. And again, The Lord shall judge his people.'' Hebrew 10:30
Many pastors have ended their ministry in jail , because they killed someone .Their duties to the Lord and the body of Christ has been aborted by incarceration .
2. Do not lie to collect money or raise funds in the church
As much as possible do not lie to anyone in order to collect money . When raising funds in church , do not lie to the congregation in any way , because you are raising funds for the work of God .
Your lies may give you the money , but you will loose the joy of the Lord , especially when you are exposed at the end . Then again you will become a child of the devil .
'' Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.'' John 8:44
Lies will affiliate your ministry to satan , the Holy Spirit who is the spirit of truth will depart from your ministry or the church .
3. Do not visit the shrine
As a minister of God , you should know that you are born again not to worship satan again , so you should not under any circumstance visit the shrine or any temple of idols and demons . Any time a person visits the shrine , he or she sells the soul to satan and his life is defiled thereby .
4 . Do not join occult
Do not join any occultic society , even when you see that there are other prominent ministers of the gospel in it . Occultism is the worship of satan , and whenever you are initiated , it means your ministry and soul has been entrusted unto satan , and Jesus is no longer your Lord , beware !
5. Do not commit abortion
Do not commit any form of abortion , either for yourself , your church member, your daughter , your family member , your wife etc. It is the sin of murder , as a man of God you cannot commit abortion nor sponsor anyone to do it . Even if the pregnancy is unwanted , or as a result of rape , the expectant mother is not safe to keep the pregnancy , you should know that the baby is not unwanted , it is the handiwork of God . Abortion is a first degree murder , punishable by the law of God ,oh thou man of God do not commit abortion under any circumstance , nor endorse anyone to do the same .
6. Do not laugh at the sick
It is wrong and sinful for any minister of God to laugh at the sick ,under no circumstance should you laugh at a sick person as a man of God . Jesus had compassion on the sick and he healed so many diseases , he never laughed at anyone's ailment .
So never you laugh at any sick person , not even a mad person , stammerer, or the funny type of sickness . This can hinder the gift of healing in your ministry , it could also incur a curse into the life of anyone who laughs at the sick .
7. Do not mock church members who have problems
As an overseer over God's flock you should not laugh at your church member who have problems , like financial constraints , lustful problems , or any form of impairment . It is sinful because you are mocking the body of Christ , and God will likewise chastise you with the '' rod of the wicked ''. or '' a messenger of satan '' to buffet you with similar problems . Rather , you ought to have compassion , mercy and sympathy on them and help them in any way you can, in addition you can as well pray for them .
8. Do not fight with anyone
Try as much you can to avoid quarreling with anyone as a minister of God , a pastor of the church . Constant disputes , strife, quarrels , or beef with people is not befitting for the minister of the gospel .
9. Never engage in fist fighting
Do not fight with anyone , as a man of God , you are not expected to fight , that will disqualify your office as a minister of the gospel .The scriptures declare that the pastor is ''... not a brawler...'' 1 Timothy 3:3 . That is someone who easily throws out his or her fist to hit or beat someone at the least provocation .
As a minister of the gospel it would be shameful for your members to find you engaging in a fist fight with anyone . No matter the offense , '' offer the other cheek, '' Matthew 5:39 '' go the extra mile '' and '' overcome evil with good '' Romans 12:21
10. Do not steal
As a man of God , you must not steal anything from anyone , whether in private or public , whether people are watching you or not , you should not steal , even if you are dying , do not steal from anyone at all .
It would be a disgrace and shame for you , when you are caught , as a minister of the gospel who steals from people . Satan can put you in the act of stealing and also expose you to be caught as a thief , beware !
11. Do not pour libation
As a man of God do not under any circumstance or pressure pour libation ; such as pouring strong drinks on the ground and invoking demons , this is idol worship and a born again pastor should not do that .
12.; Avoid cursing church members
Another area of concern is when a minister of the gospel is found of cursing people , this is not befitting , because your ministry is the ministry of blessing . We New Testament Christians have received the ministry of Jesus Christ to save lives and not to curse the people ,who even offend us . We need to follow the doctrine of Christ and the ministry of the New Testament bible . Let us meditate on the following portion of scriptures ;
'' or the Son of man is not come to destroy men's lives, but to save them. '' Luke 9:56
'' Bless them which persecute you: bless, and curse not.'' Romans 12:14
‘’ But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;'' Matthew 5:44
13. Do not conduct deliverance in the church office
Do not conduct deliverance in the church office , it is unprofessional and a source of temptation . Try as much as you can to avoid doing deliverance in your office .
14. Do not drink strong drinks
A man of God should not be given to alcohol , he should desist from drinking any strong drink that is capable of making him intoxicated and addicted . Strong drink is designed to entertain fools who are perishing and hopeless in life, but not for a man of God .
.''4 It is not for kings, O Lemuel, it is not for kings to drink wine; nor for princes strong drink:5 Lest they drink, and forget the law, and pervert the judgment of any of the afflicted.6 Give strong drink unto him that is ready to perish, and wine unto those that be of heavy hearts.'' Proverbs 31:4-6
We all know that any minister of God is also a king , for the scriptures declares, '' And hath made us kings and priests unto God and his Father; to him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.'' Revelation 1:6 So anytime you drink as a minister of God , you break the covenant of the kingdom and the priesthood .
Anytime a minister of God drinks it defiles the anointing of the Holy Ghost which is also a spiritual wine, for the scriptures affirm . '' And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit; ''
15. Do not go to the nightclub
A minister of God must not be seen going to a nightclub , it is against the will of God for a child of God to go to a nightclub , which is the gathering of harlots , drunkards , bandits , drug dealers and the like . Please meditate on this portion of scripture prayerfully .
''1 Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.2 But his delight is in the law of the Lord; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.'' Psalm 1:1-2
This scripture explains in detail the portion of the man of God ; is to delight in the word of God , and meditate upon it day and night .
16. Do not smoke
It is not befitting for any child of God to indulge in smoking , cigarette, marijuana, Indian hemp and the like . This will affect your mental prowess and it is a disgrace to the kingdom of God for people to find out that the man of God is a chain smoker .Let us meditate on the following scripture prayerfully .'' Which say, Stand by thyself, come not near to me; for I am holier than thou. These are a smoke in my nose, a fire that burneth all the day.'' Isaiah 65:5
